William G. Ross, Jr. is the former secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. He led the agency from 2001 to 2009. Since leaving the secretary's office, Ross has focused on military-related initiatives and partnerships that advance readiness, sustainability and natural resource conservation (as a consultant and lawyer at Brooks Pierce, in Raleigh, NC) and on matters of environment and health (as a visiting professor at the Duke University Nicholas School of the Environment, in Durham, NC). Ross serves as chair of the National Advisory Council on Environmental Policy and Technology of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and as co-chair of the Research Triangle Environmental Health Collaborative.
