Tony Tekaroniake Evans

Organization:
Author of 'Teaching Native Pride, Upward Bound and the Legacy of Isabel Bond' (2020) and 'A History of Indians in the Sun Valley Area' (2017), Tony Tekaroniake (daga-roon-yah gay) Evans is an award-winning columnist and reporter at the Idaho Mountain Express in Ketchum/Sun Valley, Idaho, which won the National Newspaper Association’s General Excellence Award in 2018 and 2020. A recent Idaho Humanities Council grant recipient, Tony studied cultural anthropology and biology at the University of Colorado and was awarded the Expatriate Scholarship to the Prague Summer Writing Workshop at Charles University in 1996. Since then, he has written for the Mountain Gazette, A&E Networks, High Country News, the Taos News, Santa Fe New Mexican, Multihulls International, Idaho Arts Quarterly, Boise Weekly, Environmental News Network and other publications; contributed reporting to the BBC live Sunday Edition, National Public Radio and Boise State Public Radio; He has offered creative writing workshops in Sun Valley, Idaho since 2004 and is a citizen of the Mohawk Nation, Kahnawake (Gah nah wah gay) Band.
