Ryan manages mapping needs for AFT's research projects. He plays a key role in the "Farms Under Threat" Initiative and the creation of a national protected farmland database. Before joining AFT, Ryan served as GIS planner at the Lamoille County Planning Commission in Vermont. He developed his problem solving and analytical skills serving at the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, NASA, the Agricultural Sustainability Institute, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, The International Center for the Improvement of Corn and Wheat, and Bioversity International. Ryan served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Peru and has worked with farmers in Mexico, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Cambodia. He holds masters degrees in geography and in international agricultural development from UC Davis.
