Matt Brantley, from Monroe, North Carolina, received his undergraduate degree in environmental science at Davidson College in 2016. He went on to work for a year at a local land trust in Charlotte, and began his graduate program in the fall of 2017 at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment. He plans to graduate in December 2019 with Master of Forestry and Master of Environmental Management degrees. His academic and career interests revolve around forestry operations and timber management. Upon graduation he hopes for a career in the commercial timber industry, timberland investments, or consulting forestry.
