Kieran Roe has been executive director of Conserving Carolina, and before that of Carolina Mountain Land Conservancy, since 1999. Conserving Carolina has protected over 45,000 acres in western North Carolina and has a strong community conservation focus. In addition to land protection and stewardship, the organization is active in habitat restoration, parks, trails and greenway development, youth service programs and promoting affordable housing. Conserving Carolina holds the conservation easement for Carolina Memorial Sanctuary (CMS), a conservation burial ground in Mills River, North Carolina. Its partnership with CMS is an outgrowth of its interest in creating new ways to connect people and nature. Kieran serves on the board of the Asheville-Buncombe Community Land Trust, the Transylvania County Community Land Trust, the Mills River Partnership and the Buncombe County Land Conservation Advisory Board.
