On this tour we’ll look at what resources are being provided to steward and grow the sustainability and diversity of the local agricultural industry, all while sampling tasty Portland area food and beverages. We’ll start with a visit to Black Futures Farm, where we’ll hear about their work to grow food and community, followed by an interactive dialogue with tour participants about what land conservation organizations can be doing to improve access to farmland for the Black, Indigenous and people of color community. Next, we’re off to Headwater’s Incubator Farm project for a tour with beginning farmer program participants, where we’ll also enjoy locally sourced products for lunch. We’ll then visit the adjoining Mainstem Farm property to hear from a beginning farmer about an innovative farm access transaction which secured long-term access for her, how she farms in community and see and learn more about riparian restoration efforts targeting salmonids. Then it’s off to Zenger Farm where we’ll hear about efforts to promote sustainable food systems and environmental stewardship while touring Zenger’s small urban farm. We’ll wrap our day by enjoying vegetable and fruit selections from the Oregon Culinary Breeding Network.
